The Supreme Court is a judicial branch that has nine voted judges that are appointed; for life. The nine current judges are divided up into two parties being, Republican and Democratic. Five judges are Republican the other four are Democratic.
The Judicial branch is one of the three branches in the United States the other; two are the legislative and the executive branch. The legislative branch is Congress who makes laws for the people. Meanwhile, the executive branch is the president; his job is to enforce the laws in America.
The Supreme Court judges are elected; by a president and can serve for decades after the president's term. They receive thousands of petitions to view cases but, only a couple of them get viewed. The most well-known case they've done has been Brown v Board of Education.
Each judge gets assisted by a small staff of law clerks but, they still do plenty of work. The Supreme Court hears cases publicly lawyers have thirty minutes to present their case. Here is where the judges ask the hard questions to see who is at fault.
The Supreme Court has many roles to fulfill, one of them being that it finds justice. A few other ones are making certain; that each branch keeps equal power and opposing laws that disagree with the constitution.
The location of the Supreme Court is in Washington, DC, and most of the time, when there is not a case, you can tour the first floor where the hearings happen. A video that I recommend watching if your trying to learn more about the Supreme Court is Comm3390.
