William Lloyd Garrison

My name is William Lloyd Garrison and, I was born in Maine, Newburyport. My father was a merchant who abandoned me at the age of three. Growing up, I always loved writing when I was thirteen, I received an apprenticeship as an editor for Ephraim W. Allen and worked for Mr. Allen for seven years. After my apprenticeship, I started a newspaper company called Newburyport Free Press.

However, My news company was not a success due to my Federalist viewpoint at the time. I then moved to Boston and landed a job as printer and editor for National Philanthropist. I then accepted a meeting with Benjamin Lundy, who offered me to be the editor of Genius of Emancipation in Vermont.

Some of my beliefs are that I believe that no, matter what race you are, or gender you should be treated equally to everyone for, that's what the united states stand for. Anyone in favor of slavery does not have good morals and doesn't stand for the USA.

I believe anyone in favor of slavery should do the job of a slave and see how well they like the job. Anyone who beats a slave should also beat as I believe in justice. As my mother once told me always, treat everyone the way you would want to be treated.

In 1830 I started my abolishment paper called The Liberator. The motto of my book was, "our country is the world our, countrymen are mankind." My paper built my reputation of being a notable abolitionist.

In 1832, I helped form the New England Anti-Slavery Society which, signified a step towards abolition. Some of my fellow abolitionist supporters gradually deserted to pacifists due to me not wanting to take political action. I soon realized that the right thing to do was to make anti-Union speeches.

I made up to forty with Frederick Douglas. I believe when: the Constitution was, written black people were not protected by it because they couldn't become US citizens. "Wherever there is a human being, I see God-given rights inherent in that being, whatever may be the sex or complexion."

The last thing I would like to say is that I could not imagine being taken away from my beloved country to work for another man. I don't think any person would ever want to be separated from their family than to never see them again. No person should ever have to go through this. One of my famous quotes is  "My crime is that I will not go with the mob to do evil. My flaw is that when I say that freedom is of God and slavery is of the devil, I mean just what I say. My passion is that I insist on the American people abolishing slavery, or ceasing to prate on the rights of man."

In 1861 the Civil War broke out and, I used my journalism to support Abe Lincoln even if we didn't have the same beliefs. Then after the Civil War ended in 1865, slavery was finally outlawed. Using my journalism helped abolish slavery and create better lives for people soon.

Slavery

Have you ever wondered if your religion has ever been in favor of slavery? Well, today I'm going to talk about some of the big religions and their view on slavery. Most religions now will say they're against slavery but in the past well see which ones were for slavery.

The first religion I've researched about their view on slavery is Christianity. The religion of Christianity now is very anti-slavery but back when slavery was a thing: people would use verses to back it up. One verse being Ephesians 6:5-8 “Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of heart, as to Christ."

The second religion I viewed was Islam. The Quaran seems to be very serious and talks about murdering nonbelievers. Extremists such as ISIS have sex slavery so they view it as just any ordinary day-to-day thing.

In conclusion, you can see that every religion has once been in favor of slavery in the beginning and as time goes on their view tends to change. However, one thing about the Bible to me is it has an Old Testament and a New Testament which means there's a new law and an old law. The old law being the Old Testament and the new law being The New Testament.

Check on governmental power

We as citizens should always be on watch over the government to make sure they aren't gaining more power than they already have in the government. An example of the government abusing its power would be a mandatory quarantine which they executed last year. Another issue we recently faced was the fraud of votes in last year's election with Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Watching nonbiased news will also help us Americans see the truth and act properly when we hear false info. We need to be more careful about trusting the government and fact-checking them constantly.

Another story that got my interest was the Surveillance Society. This just talks about how the government is keeping track of our every move and has records of everything we do. Whenever I see a camera now I just think of how the government is spying on us and barely anyone knows the truth. With new technology coming up the government will continue to spy on us and keep our data in their systems.

All of the branches should frequently be observed by the judicial branch as it's their job to keep the powers in check. An example of keeping the power in check is when the President wants a law passed; it goes to the Senate for them to vote, then the judicial branch makes sure it's constitutional. Keeping the government at a limited power is called checks and balances and was the framework for our country.

The founding fathers were well aware of the government being corrupt James Madison was the one who led the discussion that no branch should have more power than the other branches. One of his quotes saying “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive and judicial in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self–appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." We all should be grateful for the Bill of Rights as it has helped form our country in so many ways and kept it from going in a different direction. Another quote from one of the founding fathers that can be applicable for today's world is by Thomas Jefferson and says this "Experience hath shown, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."

In conclusion, I believe we should all look over the Bill of Rights and see how our government is avoiding the Separation of Powers. In conclusion, I believe we should all look over the Bill of Rights again and see how our government is avoiding the Separation of Powers. I believe that we will soon witness a lawsuit on the way: our government is: being run and how they aren't following any of their laws.I would like to end this with a quote "There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice."

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is a judicial branch that has nine voted judges that are appointed; for life. The nine current judges are divided up into two parties being, Republican and Democratic. Five judges are Republican the other four are Democratic.

The Judicial branch is one of the three branches in the United States the other; two are the legislative and the executive branch. The legislative branch is Congress who makes laws for the people. Meanwhile, the executive branch is the president; his job is to enforce the laws in America.

The Supreme Court judges are elected; by a president and can serve for decades after the president's term. They receive thousands of petitions to view cases but, only a couple of them get viewed. The most well-known case they've done has been Brown v Board of Education

Each judge gets assisted by a small staff of law clerks but, they still do plenty of work. The Supreme Court hears cases publicly lawyers have thirty minutes to present their case. Here is where the judges ask the hard questions to see who is at fault.

The Supreme Court has many roles to fulfill, one of them being that it finds justice. A few other ones are making certain; that each branch keeps equal power and opposing laws that disagree with the constitution.

The location of the Supreme Court is in Washington, DC, and most of the time, when there is not a case, you can tour the first floor where the hearings happen. A video that I recommend watching if your trying to learn more about the Supreme Court is Comm3390.

Top 5 news sources

Fox News

I started watching Fox News in 2016 when the presidential election was happening. I remember watching the polls very close with my two brothers. Watching Fox actually made the news interesting even with their obvious bias. I also love when Mr. Carlson gets into "debates" with political speakers and just tries to make them frustrated with him. However, Fox News seems to be getting less from real news nowadays and more into oblivious stuff no one needs to know unless you are a celebrity.

Wall Street Journal

Wall Street Journal is an informative news outlet that I read every so often when I'm not busy with school. The purpose why I watch WSJ is that they have great business coverage and as a business major that's something you should endeavor to study about. They also advance more in-depth with economics than most news outlets.

ABC News

The main reason I watch ABC News is to see what is happening with vaccines and America's health. They seem to always stay up to date on what is new in the health world. Recently however they seem to be going down a dark path with trying to convince Americans to take the vaccine rather than letting the people choose for themselves. Although I oppose what they have to say about the vaccine I believe they are a reliable news channel most of the time.

CNN

CNN is a news channel that I watch for pure entertainment and a little bit for the news. Wolf Blitzer is one of the anchors I love to watch the most just for his immense coverage and experience in the profession. CNN to me is something you watch late at night when you have nothing to do and just want to be entertained. However, whenever I go to my grandparent's house they always seem to be watching CNN because they want to stay updated on what's happening in America that can affect them.

The New York Times

The New York Times is a news channel I recently have been reading about due to the current Afghan situation. They have great publishers who make the reading interesting and easy to read. They are no doubt an upcoming news outlet that I could see being one of the most well known news outlets in America.

Martin Luther King

Throughout American history, there have been many influential leaders who have changed the way we live and think. One influential leader is ...
